to think, only two weeks ago, i was at macchu picchu. in the last few days, there have been floods and mudslides in the area, causing tourists and locals to be stuck in aguas calientes with no way out but by helicopter. some have had to sleep on the streets and have been there for days.
isn't it strange how one can narrowly escape a life altering situation? there were pictures of the affected areas and i recognized specific locations because i had just been there! it reminds me of the movie "sliding doors" shows how one seemingly insignificant occurrence (in this case it's very significant) can completely change the course of one's life. if we had been stuck there, we could have easily missed our flight home, i could easily have starved to an unhealthy state (the food was horrible and made me sick) and a whole plethora of chain reactions could've taken place. and who knows where we would have ended up? i just have to be grateful fate has been good to me so far. i hope everyone gets out safely.
